Billing and Fees/Payment of Fees
The Office
of Student Accounts is responsible for student billing and refunds
and is the official source of student financial account
information. Notices will be e-mailed to registered students when
semester bills are available to view online. Payments can be made
online (beginning Fall 2008), by mail, or in person at the Office of
Student Accounts in Room 223, Meshel Hall. It is the student’s
responsibility to inquire about his/her bill if it is not received
prior to the due date. If a student decides not to attend a
semester for which he/she has already registered, he/she must
officially withdraw prior to the end of the 100% refund period to
ensure that he/she is released from the financial obligation.
In order to comply
with FERPA regulations, a student who wishes to permit a parent to
access his/her financial records may complete an Authorization to
Release Financial Information form. With the signed authorization
on file, the Office of Student Accounts will disclose financial
account information to a designated individual.

Campus Ministry
Newman Center:
The Newman Center, home of Catholic campus ministry at YSU, is a
place where Catholic students can grow in their relationship with
the Lord Jesus and in their knowledge and love of the Faith and can
participate in the life of the Sacraments in an atmosphere at once
reverent and relaxed. The wonderful facilities of the Newman
Center, located conveniently across the street from YSU’s Cafaro
House and Lyden House residence halls, are made available to other
recognized student groups for various functions and meetings for a
minimal usage fee. The Catholic Student Association plans service
projects, social events, and spiritual activities throughout the
academic year. Many activities are open to the entire University
community, and all are welcome to be part of the Newman Center

times of Christian organizations on campus, volunteer opportunities
with community ministries such as Habitat for Humanity and the St.
John's Episcopal Soup Kitchen, the opportunity to attend the

Career
& Counseling Services
Career Services: Your connection to careers and employment
opportunities begins with the Office of Career and Counseling
Services. This office provides comprehensive career
planning/exploration and job search services to students and alumni
in all areas of career decision-making and the professional job
search. Students are encouraged to become familiar with Career and
Counseling Services early in their course of study in order to fully
utilize and benefit from available services and resources.
Services and resources available to students include: individual
career and job search consultation; computerized interactive career
planning software for assistance with individual academic/career
planning; job postings from hundreds of local, regional, and
national employers; a comprehensive career resource information
center; employment search skill development programs and workshops
offered each semester; an on-campus recruiting program which
annually brings employer organizations to the YSU campus to
interview graduating students for employment after graduation; and
annual career/job fairs and consortium job fairs. The staff also
assists students in finding employment while enrolled in the
University, either on-campus or with local area employers.
Central to the operation of the Office of
Career and Counseling Services is EASE CareerConnections, a totally
web-based software system that makes it possible for currently
enrolled students, YSU alumni, and employers to have
24-hours-a-day/7-days-a-week access to recruiting information and
services at Youngstown State University. Through EASE
CareerConnections, students and alumni registered with Career and
Counseling Services can upload their resumes to the database and
publish their resumes to one or more online resume books, search job
listings and e-mail resumes directly to employers, quickly view the
latest announcements from the office, and review the recruiting
schedule and sign up for interviews with employers recruiting on
campus.
Counseling Services: Juggling life’s
responsibilities is a challenge that causes many individuals to feel
anxious, confused, or overwhelmed at times. At Youngstown State
University, the Office of Career and Counseling Services provides a
comfortable environment in which to discuss and address problems and
possible solutions. Short-term counseling, consultation, and
referral services are provided to the campus and, in most cases,
there is no fee for services. Issues commonly addressed during
individual counseling sessions include: depression, anxiety,
relationship problems, family conflicts, low self-esteem, school and
work problems, eating disorders, lack of emotional control, career
indecision, loss and grief issues, and coping with illness.
The Office of Career and Counseling Services is
located in Room 1034, Jones Hall. For more information, call

Center for International Studies and Programs
A
knowledge of local and national issues is no longer sufficient for
any university graduate. To succeed in today’s world, Youngstown
State University students must be prepared to understand global
perspectives. The Center for International Studies and Programs (CISP)
is an integral part of the Division of Academic Affairs and provides
leadership and coordination within the University concerning
international matters and initiatives. The CISP is responsible for
international exchange agreements, support services for
international students and faculty, supervision of the intensive
English Language Institute, and study abroad programs.
The YSU Study Abroad Program offers many possibilities.
Faculty-led, short-term programs give students the chance to
participate in a course that includes an overseas “field study”
component lasting from one to three weeks in various parts of the
world. YSU exchange programs afford students the chance to study at
Lunghwa University Taiwan or at Yeditepe University in Turkey while
paying YSU tuition. The YSU partnership with the University of
Winchester near London grants YSU students a partial tuition
scholarship, making the cost of attending a semester there only
slightly higher than at YSU.
YSU’s other partnerships allow students to participate in almost any
accredited study abroad program virtually anywhere in the world. In
some instances, the cost is lower than at Youngstown State
University. YSU tuition scholarships and financial aid can be used
for study abroad and students may be eligible for additional
financial aid to fund their international education. The CISP staff
works with each student individually toward realizing his or her
academic, professional, and personal goals for overseas study.
The CISP is located in Room 1005, Jones Hall. For information, call
330-941-2336 or visit http://www.ysu.edu/cisp.

Community
Counseling Clinic
The mission of the Community Counseling
Clinic (CCC) is to provide quality, individual, family,
couples, group, and play therapy services to children, adolescents,
and adults living in Youngstown and its surrounding communities. To
achieve this mission, their work is guided by adherence to
professional codes of ethics and standards of practice.
The CCC offers a relaxed and
confidential environment to discuss personal, relationship,
academic, or work-related problems. Some commonly presented issues
include: depression, anxiety, relationship problems, family
conflicts, low self-esteem, behavioral problems, career indecision,
loss and grief issues, health/wellness issues, body image concerns,
drug/alcohol issues, and school concerns. Although there are few
simple answers to such problems, talking with a counselor can be an
important first step in making desired changes.
In addition to
clinical services, CCC staff members offer presentations and
workshops on a variety of mental health issues. A small
sampling of these topics includes enhancing self-esteem, dealing
with stress, coping with loss, health and wellness issues, and drug
and alcohol issues.
Counseling services are
provided by the CCC at a minimal cost. Evening appointments are
available. Appointments can be made in person or by calling 330-941-3056. The CCC is located in Room 3101 (just off the elevator), Beeghly College of Education, which is at the corner of Fifth
and Rayen Avenues. Additional information is available at

for accessing the YSU Portal, creating YSU email accounts, logging
on to lab computers, establishing a PPP connection to the internet
via YSU, downloading software and accessing WebCT. Other future
uses are planned. Additional information about the directory
account is available at techdesk.ysu.edu along with
directory-related information available in the YSU Undergraduate
Bulletin under "Student Records.”
